Brytewood, England. October 1940.
The peaceful village of Brytewood has already survived a secret
Nazi vampire attack. But this is war, and where one immortal
fails, another much more cunning comes to finish what was begun.
Gloria Prewitt, district nurse and werefox, has plenty to keep
her busy, what with tending to the sick and wounded of Brytewood
whilst hiding her Other nature. The absolute last thing she
needs is a broken ankle, courtesy of munitions plant supervisor
Andrew Barron's untimely run-in with her bicycle. But it isn't
the injury to her ankle that has Gloria worriedit's the
wild, uninhibited feeling she has as the dashing (and quite
apologetic) man carries her in his strong, very male arms. It's
enough to make her break her rule about not getting close to
humans.
Gloria only means to have a war-time fling, not fall madly
in love. But now that she has, how can she possibly tell Andrew
her secret? Sly like a fox is one thing; furry like a fox is
another. But as autumn comes to Brytewood, so does a sinister
new threat, and Alice will have to risk everything to keep Andrew
and England from falling into the ultimate darkness.
